Accessibility statement
Last reviewed: 13 July 2026
Bond Street Chelmsford wants everyone to feel welcome, whether you are browsing this website or visiting us in person. This statement explains how accessible the site is, what to expect when you visit, and how to reach us if something is not working for you.
This website
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 AA, the recognised standard for accessible websites. We have built the site to:
- work with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline on every link and control, and a skip-to-content link at the top of each page
- carry descriptive alternative text on images
- present opening hours and parking tariffs as proper tables that screen readers can read in order
- keep text legible over photography, with contrast checked against the darkest part of each image
- respect a reduced-motion setting, so animation is dialled back if your device asks for it
Some parts of the site may not yet be fully accessible. Where we know of a limitation we will note it here, and if you come across a barrier we have missed, please tell us using the details below and we will put it right.
Visiting Bond Street
Bond Street is a step-free, open-air scheme on one level. The shopping streets have smooth surfaces, with no cobbles, steps or steep gradients, and all areas are wheelchair-accessible. Four lifts connect the parking beneath the scheme with street level and with John Lewis, and it is a short, level walk to the shops. Stores set over more than one floor have their own lifts.
Parking is directly beneath the shops and open 24 hours, with lifts up to the main level. Ten larger bays at the rear are shared between Blue Badge holders and parent-and-child use; they are not dedicated disabled bays, so they can be busy at peak times.
Bond Street does not have toilets of its own. Toilets, accessible toilets and baby-change are inside John Lewis and in the restaurants, so it is worth planning around their opening hours. In John Lewis you will find an accessible toilet and baby-change on the ground floor, and a Parents' Room and further toilets on Level 2.
Some things are not available on site, and we would rather you knew before you travel. There is no Changing Places facility, no hearing loops, and no Shopmobility or wheelchair loan. We do not currently run dedicated quiet hours.
Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere across the scheme.
There are two benches outside John Lewis. There is no guest-services desk; for lost property, first aid or security, our security office can help on 01245 259 259. Free WiFi is available across the scheme.
For the full facilities detail, see our Accessibility and facilities page.
Individual shops, restaurants and the cinema
John Lewis, the Everyman cinema and the restaurants each manage their own accessibility, including their own facilities and any assisted-hearing or relaxed provision. For anything specific to a venue, we would suggest contacting them directly through their own website.
